Black Bears
(Ursus Americanus or Ursus Vancouverii - Vancouver Island Black Bears)
Black Bears are the most common of the North American Bear and compared to their relative, the Grizzly Bear, they are also the smallest. Not all Black Bears are black, most however are black with a brownish muzzle and a white throat patch. Common colors of Black Bears are: Black, Brown, Dark Brown, Blue/Black, White, Cinnamon. The average weight of a male (boar) is 375 lbs. (160 kilos) to 600 lbs. (270 kilos). They appear clumsy but can reach speeds up to 40 mph (60 kph).
